I am now heading a consortium that has created the Pan-African University Press to be based in Austin, Tx, USA. It will be a non-profit academic press. Books will mainly be distributed for free in Africa, although we will sell in the West to generate an operating cost. All publications will be rigorously peer-reviewed.
I am inviting all African Universities to join this consortium. It won’t cost you any money, but gives you greater visibility as consortia members are listed in all the publications. However, if a staff of publishes with us, we may seek a subvention to let us give away the book for free in Africa. Or, the staff or the university can buy a certain number of copies to distribute on their own. Such a purchase will be at an affordable rate.
The book will have the following advantages:
- it counts as an international publication for your staff;
- It gets indexed, and searchable all over the world;
- It connects your university to all the world libraries; and
- you get copies to distribute for free
The overriding goal of Pan-African University Press is to insert African voices into the global academy, to make the knowledge produced in one African country accessible in other African countries, and to give attention to a new generation of African scholars.
